Section Types

The main application window is a multi-cell view with each column shown as a thumbnail.

The following types of columns may be checked:

  • Rectangular

  • Circular

  • General shape

  • Wall to AS 3735-2001 Concrete structures for retaining liquids

  • Diaphragm wall (DWall)

Bundled bars are permitted in circular columns. Irregular main bar arrangements are permitted for all section types except the wall to AS 3735. There is an option for checking the confined core of circular columns – all concrete outside the effectively confined core is assumed to have spalled off, while a modified stress-strain curve is used for the confined concrete.

Slenderness

Slenderness may be taken into account automatically for rectangular and circular columns. Virtual reality graphics is available for visualising the 3-D section interaction surface together with load points showing the effects of slenderness. Column geometry and bending moment diagrams can also be displayed with virtual reality graphics.
